Leibniz University of Hannover
The Leibniz University of Hannover was founded 1831. The heart of the university beats in the idyllic Welfenschloss, the Guelph Palace. Today with some 23.000 students, the Leibniz University of Hannover is the largest higher education institution in the German federal state of Lower Saxony. Students can choose from more than 60 disciplines. The range of subjects extends from science and engineering via the arts, humanities and social sciences through to the fields of law and economics. This diversity of academic and scientific disciplines combines with high-quality research and excellent study conditions to make the Leibniz University of Hannover an attractive partner.
Location
Hannover is the capital of Lower Saxony, a federal state in north-western Germany. As a city of 520.000 inhabitants it offers a rich and attractive variety of cultural and leisure events. Hannover is one of the world’s premier trade fair locations. The largest IT fair worldwide CeBIT and other world-renowned fairs (Hannover Fair and others) form the basis of this. Furthermore Hannover was the first city in Germany to act as host and location for a world exposition: EXPO 2000. Hannover was selected to be a host city of the FIFA World Cup 2006. The university lies close to the town centre in the beautiful north-town. The technical information library of Hannover is part of the university library, offering local access to one of the biggest collections of technical publications worldwide. In addition, the university disposes of various facilities such as the University Sports Centre offering a wide and extensive range of sporting courses, most of them free of charge. The Special Purpose Language Centre is still another academic facility with the scope of foreign language teaching for students of all faculties and departments.
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Leibniz University of Hannover has an excellent national and international reputation. Its primary objective is to provide students with the necessary theoretical and practical instruments and a interdisciplinary know-how to tackle the challenges of the professional computer science life and to be highly competitive in the job market. Graduates of this programme will be the interdisciplinary experts of tomorrow, who stand out with their specialist expertise drawn from various areas.
Study achievements and elements are assessed by using an internationally comparable credit point system, which serves to facilitate transition from, and to foreign universities (ECTS-based). The study work to be completed each semester corresponds to 30 credit points. According to students experience, the work effort is between 25 and 30 hours per credit point.
The Leibniz University of Hannover has more than 3700 foreign students (about 16 %). There are many programmes to support them both socially and related to studies.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offers a weekly mentoring programme for its foreign students, to support them in all study related questions.
Additionally, the International Office of the Leibniz University of Hannover runs a variety of events destined to foreign students, such as excursions, parties, opera visits, etc. They have the goal to integrate the students in the social life in Germany and at the university.
